Privacy Slat Chain-Link Fencing

Privacy Slat Chain-Link Fencing in Fresno & Clovis

Wood-fence privacy on a chain-link budget — and nothing to repaint.

Privacy slats are the most under-rated fence in the Central Valley. You get the screening of a board fence for a fraction of the cost, on a frame that will still be straight in fifteen years, and there is nothing to stain, seal or replace when a board splits. Two of the projects in our portfolio are exactly this — a tan run along a property line and a brown run enclosing a backyard — and they are the jobs homeowners around Fresno and Clovis ask about most.

The slats themselves are UV-stabilized polyethylene strips that thread vertically through the diamonds of the mesh and lock in place. They can go into a brand-new fence or into chain-link that is already standing, which makes them the cheapest privacy upgrade available to anyone who already has a galvanized fence in decent shape.

Options

Slat Colors & Profiles

Colors below are the standard palette. Bring a photo of your house and we will tell you honestly which one is going to disappear and which one is going to stand out.

Standard slat colors

  • Tan / Beige
  • Brown
  • Black
  • Green
  • Gray
  • White

Colors shown are an approximation for planning. We bring real samples to the estimate so you can hold them against the house.

  • Slat profile

A basic single-wall slat screens the view at a low price. Winged and tubular profiles fill the diamond more completely and block far more sightline — worth the upgrade on a fence you look at every day.

  • Top-lock or bottom-lock

Bottom-lock slats lock at ground level and leave a clean top edge; top-lock slats lock at the rail. Either way, locked slats do not creep down the fence over time the way loose ones do.

  • Retrofit an existing fence

If your chain-link is straight and the fabric is tight, slats can go into it as-is. We will tell you at the estimate if the frame needs work first.

  • Heights

Slats are cut to the fence height, so a 4 ft, 5 ft, 6 ft or 8 ft fence all screen the same way. 6 ft is the usual choice for backyards.

  • Matching gates

Walk and drive gates get slatted to match so the privacy line is unbroken.

Our process

How a Slat Job Runs

  1. Step 1

    Pick the color on site

We look at the fence against the house, the neighbor's yard and whatever the HOA allows before anything is ordered.

  2. Step 2

    Frame first

New fence goes in the usual way — posts in concrete, top rail, fabric stretched tight. Slats need a taut fence to sit straight.

  3. Step 3

    Slats threaded and locked

Every strip is threaded through the mesh by hand and locked at the bottom or the rail so the run stays even end to end.

  4. Step 4

    Trim and walk-through

Tops are cut clean to the rail line, gates are checked, and we walk the finished line with you.

Why it works

Why It Works Here

  • HOA-friendly

Standard colors and a uniform, tidy line satisfy most Fresno and Clovis HOA fence rules. Check yours and we will build to it.

  • No repainting, ever

The color is through the plastic, not on top of it. There is no annual stain job waiting for you.

  • Wind comes through

A slatted fence bleeds pressure instead of catching it like a solid wood panel, which is easier on posts in a spring windstorm.

  • Half-step, not all-or-nothing

Slat only the section you want screened — the run along the neighbor, and leave the rest open.

Questions

Privacy Slat Chain-Link FAQs

The questions we get asked most about this kind of work.

Do privacy slats block the view completely?

Close, but not like a solid wall. A winged or tubular slat fills nearly the whole diamond and reads as solid from a few feet away; a basic single-wall slat leaves a thin gap pattern. We will show you the difference before you choose.

Can slats be added to a chain-link fence I already have?

Usually yes, and it is the cheapest privacy you can buy. The fence needs straight posts and tight fabric — if either is off, we would fix that first so the slats do not go in crooked.

How do slats hold up in Valley sun?

The slats are UV-stabilized for outdoor use, which is what keeps them from going brittle. Darker colors show sun fade sooner than tan or gray, the same as any exterior color in Fresno.
